Here at Dorset Web Solutions we develop standards based websites so that viewers can view the pages no matter what PC they are using. We use technologies such as HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript to create your web pages. We can also create graphics for your web site as we are experienced with professional design tools such as Photoshop.

Here at Dorset Web Solutions we can create dynamic web sites that allow users to have a greater web experience. We use PHP and MySQL for this purpose as these are widely supported. We can range from a simple user feedback form to a large scale customer database system all at a reasonable price.

Why would I get a dynamic website?

Dynamic websites are the future of the internet, eventhough they are already very popular all over the web. When you signed up for ebay, you used a dynamic site. When you use Facebook every day, you use a dynamic site. When you search for a video on youtube, you use a dynamic site. The reason that these sites are so easy to use is because of the complex programming behind them.

Put simply, a dynamic site allows novice computer users to easily perform online tasks that would be impossible without in depth computer knowledge. This may be updating a part of your website, allowing users to sign up to a mailing list or even just searching for a specific item. A dynamic site provides a more personal interaction between your website and your customers, increasing the effectiveness and enjoyability of the site.

So whats all this jargon about?

HTML / xHTML - These are the documents that structure the content of the site.
CSS - Cascading Style Sheets are the files that determine how the page is displayed on the screen. Everything from background color to font size is defined in these documents.
JavaScript - This is a programming language that has been adapted to run on the users web browser and is used in conjuntion with the languages above to animate objects, validate form entries and many other fairly basic client-side tasks.
PHP - This is a programming language that allows the website to perform more complicated tasks, the code is run on the server which means that we can connect it to databases. All our dynamic websites will be based on PHP code.
MySQL - This is the name of the database management system we use to store the data collected from a dynamic web site.
Server - This is a computer that stores all the files of your website. It is connected to the internet so that anyone online can visit your site.
